The UN E-Government Survey 2008: From E-Government to Connected Governance

The last evaluation on e-government has been published 2 months ago by the United Nation. This highly expected survey has their focus on citizen participation. This particular aspect gives to this index a special value for all people interested on citizens participation topics.

As it has been mentioned on all sections of this revision, the most important goal currently, is how new technologies and how local and national government changes from an informative stage, to a more participative stage.

Without a doubt efforts as UN has doing with this ranking, allow to researchers and to citizens, having a better understanding about how e-government is continuously changing. But must important than changes, public and research can take attention over new challenges and cultural transformation around the world.

It is important to realize that this index can contribute to the discussion and to the public debate about the future of e-government, and which kind of citizen our society must to expect and should to former for a vertiginous and fast world.

Maybe 10 years ago talking about citizen empowerment trough the Internet was only a dream, today is a responsibility not only for the government, but also and probably more critically transcendent , it is a responsibility for all citizens interested in our future as society and as world.
